The Institute supports university training on fishery science by taking on teaching tasks. This particularly applies to the masters course “Fishery Science and Aquaculture” at the Faculty of Life Science at the Humboldt University in Berlin, where scientists from the Institute have been teaching various modules for many years. Seminars are also held at Dresden University of Technology. But alongside its involvement in university education, the Institute also provides work experience for students. The Institute is also a recognised centre for people wanting to complete a “voluntary ecological year”. The IfB is a training centre for those wanting to become “Fischwirt”. The Institute regularly organises specialist seminars and workshops for those involved in the various branches of inland fisheries and further training events for people involved in practical situations or members of ministries and authorities. The Institute also supplies information about its tasks and research work for the general public at regular intervals – for example, at open days or lectures that are open to the public.
